The following is a list of tips, suggestions and information to optimize your session.
During my photo sessions I strive to capture a mix of images, involving some a little more posed and some freestyle shots. I want to show real relationships and emotions, yet still give you photographs that are ‘usable.’ Please come to your session in a relaxed mood, have fun and don’t be scared to be yourself in front of the camera.
Photo sessions normally last between one and two hours. Typically sessions with older children (over 5) are shorter than babies and younger children. I try to keep the sessions as fun and condensed as possible. After some years of experience I understand the ‘photography threshold’ of young kids. However, oftentimes all a small child needs is a little break and some encouragement before he/ she is ready to give me the best shots of the day.
My style of photography is relaxed and personal, so be ready to leave the suit at home. Be yourselves, be comfortable and casual. Avoid too much contrast in outfits between family members such as some people in lights and some in darks. It is best to go “middle of the road” or all in lights or all in darks. This does not mean that everyone has to match exactly- shades of blue, green, brown and beige could go together. Please avoid large patterns and bold stripes.
I prefer outdoor locations for the freedom it allows, especially with kids. Natural settings also add color and character to pictures. I require areas of shade at all times, as this allows for the most flattering, even lighting. Therefore most shoots will start within an hour after sunrise, or about 2 hours before sunset. I would love your input and creativity in finding a beautiful, new spot for your photo shoot. If not, please let me know what type of setting you have in mind.
Newborn sessions are best done within the first two weeks after birth; at this age babies are very sleepy and easily manipulated for charming pictures. We will do lots of “naked baby” shots and fun hats are very welcome. Avoid fancy, fussy clothes. Baby shoots are normally done at your home if there is some uncluttered space with natural window light available.
Senior shoots take a bit longer… about 2 1/2-hours and typically includes some driving. We’ll use multiple different settings and your input in choosing these are welcomed. I recommend five (or more) different outfits that represent you and your style-- some can be as easy as wearing a different shirt with the same pair of jeans. Please bring a friend or family member to your shoot! This way we have more fun and you get better pictures.
I accept only a limited amount of wedding assignments each year, thereby assuring each couple of my complete commitment and dedication to make their wedding pictures exceptional. You get as much of my time on the day of your wedding as needed (up to one hour after sunset).
I like to be present during all the stages of your day: from the ‘getting ready’ to the ‘first dance’. And I require at least 45 minutes alone with the bridal couple in their wedding attire, to capture those bride-and-groom shots that’s going to be with you for the rest of your lives. The best time to do this is during the “golden hour” just before sunset.
Prints are prepared by a very reputable out-of-state printing company; one of the best around. You will love your photographs! (And if you don’t, let me know and I will fix it at no additional cost) Print rates can be found under the “Rates” heading on this website. Once you have placed your print order, I will do final touch ups and sizing to each picture. You can expect to receive your prints within 5 working days (a little longer for canvas prints)
Within one week (2 weeks for weddings) of your photo shoot, you will be able to view your images by going to the “Recent Shoots” gallery on this website. Once the photographs have been posted, please let me know which ones you want in black and white also. All the photographs will then be burned onto a printable disc.
Payment in full is expected at the time of delivery of the disc. Basic Copyright Laws apply to the photographs created during our photo session.
